The 'Flaming Halo-halo' dessert at Balayong Grill and Bar is a must-try for tourists visiting the area.

"The summer heat is fast approaching, and if you're looking for a place to escape it, Balayong Grill and Bar is the perfect spot. Their new Flaming Halo-halo is a must-try, putting a fiery twist on the classic Filipino iced dessert by blending many flavors and textures for an explosion of thrill and indulgence.

The term "halo-halo" means "mix-mix" in English, as you need to blend the various ingredients with crushed or shaved ice.

A traditional Halo-halo usually contains sweet elements such as leche flan (sweet custard), sweetened red beans, pinipig, and ube-flavored ice cream on top. However, Balayong Grill and Bar has taken this beloved Filipino dessert to the next level by adding a flame on top, giving guests a sensational wow factor."

“Ang idea is of course, para ma-impress lalo yung mga guest. Yun yung pinaka-aim or yung goal namin, when someone orders the halo-halo, is to make them ‘wow’ sa initial impression. Whenever may order, yung mga servers namin they like it tableside. Pag inorder niyo, ihahatid yung halo-halo and then sisindihan, para may ‘wow’ effect,” Rex Tomen, Executive Chef of Best Western Plus – The Ivywall Hotel, said.

In terms of taste, the alcohol used to flambé the Halo-halo doesn't affect its taste but rather gives it a more mature flavor. This is what sets the Flaming Halo-halo apart from the usual dessert. Balayong Grill and Bar uses the best ingredients possible, including two flavors of ice cream, banana, sweet potato, macapuno, leche flan, and more, making it a delicious overload of goodness.

Chef Rex introduced the idea of offering Flaming Halo-halo to give a modern twist to Filipino cuisine. For him, bringing something new to the table is always a team effort. He says, "I can't say I did the job talaga. Of course, it's a team effort. My success is their success, and their success is my success."

The restaurant is currently updating their à la carte menu, and they plan to add more creative and developed dishes, including desserts, utilizing ube (purple yam) as a famous ingredient.

Since its launch in the first week of February, many guests have been ordering the Flaming Halo-halo every night to try it out. "Marami na rin [ang nag-order]. Hindi pwedeng walang mag-order sa isang gabi. Of course, they're curious," says Chef Rex.

The Flaming Halo-halo is only P250.00, which is good for two people. Visit Balayong Grill and Bar to experience the excitement, cool down, and enjoy their Flaming Halo-halo.
